Community Acupuncture has been temporarily suspended.
We will reopen when the threat of spreading COVID-19 has passed. Thank you for your patience and support!
What is community acupuncture?
Community acupuncture is a nationwide movement to create better access to acupuncture by lowering the barrier of cost. This is a group setting practice, meaning that because the practitioner can treat several people at once, the cost of the practitioner’s time and resources can spread across the community. In this style, all of the patients are treated in the same room, and since we use acupuncture points mostly on the arms, legs, and head, there is no disrobing. Many people find that they prefer this style because of the profound “group qi” of healing, much like the atmosphere in group worship or meditation.
Community acupuncture clinics are held every Tuesday, 4-8 pm. The clinic is walk-in or by appointment, although if it's your first time an appointment is strongly recommended so that you have the opportunity to fill out your intake forms beforehand.
See aboveEvery now and then, I will have to cancel a clinic for travel, family affairs, weather, etc. Check this space to plan ahead. In the case of dangerous weather or similar last-minute change, I will decide by 11 am the day of the clinic and post here and on my Facebook page whether I will still be open.
- Community Clinic is closed until further notice due to the current health emergency.
How does it work?
When you come in the door, choose any empty seat and make yourself comfortable by taking off your shoes, coat, scarves, etc. If this is your first time and you have not already done so, there will be some forms to fill out and a few things to sign.
When you are ready, I will come over to you and we will have a short, whispered conversation about how I can help you. I will take your pulses, insert the needles, and let you relax for as long as you wish, providing others don't need your seat.
When you feel ready, catch my attention, and I will come take the needles out. Before you leave, place your payment in one of the envelopes provided and drop it in the payment box. I can also take credit cards.
And that’s it!
Do you use any of the other modalities of Oriental Medicine in community acupuncture?
No. Because I potentially have several patients at the same time and with the uncertainty of a walk-in practice, I cannot take the time to use any of the other modalities at my disposal in a private setting, with the exception of prescribing Chinese herbal formulas.
Also, some people are sensitive to moxa smoke, and we want to be available and comfortable to everyone.
